WSSS Software Engineer


Background

We’re looking to recruit a suitably qualified and experienced Software Engineer with good Object Oriented Design and C/C++ Programming skills to design and write software for complex security systems.

Reporting to the Team Leader, Software Development, you will become part of a multidisciplinary team working alongside both software and hardware engineers and will be responsible for the design, development and test of whole software subsystems and interfaces, sometimes on more than one project at once.

Team sizes tend to be small and are made up of highly skilled engineers, so high quality work and a flexible approach are therefore essential from every team member.

Main Responsibilities/Key Tasks

  1. Design and write software for variety of security solutions as required to support project or product development objectives.
  2. Produce systems designs and documentation.
  3. Assist in developing functional and performance test plans.
  4. Keep abreast of the latest developments in software development and security technologies.
  5. Ensure works aligns with corporate development standards and quality processes.
  6. In addition, from time to time, you may be asked undertake other tasks and responsibilities not covered above in order to achieve project or corporate objectives.
  7. Any other reasonable request that is deemed to fall within the scope of your role to assist in the operation of the business.


Skills/Knowledge/Areas of expertise

  • To be 100% reliable and hardworking.
  • To be initiative driven.
  • Object Oriented Design and Analysis (UML).
  • To be an outstanding communicator in both your written and verbal skills.
  • C/C++ Programming skills including use of the Standard Template Library (STL). Experience of the Boost C++ Libraries will be an advantage.
  • Platform Independent Development (Target for both Linux and Win32)
  • Proven ability to work to deadlines.
  • Experience of continuous integration using tools such as CruiseControl will be a distinct advantage.
  • Eclipse, GCC and Visual Studio.
  • Version Control ideally using Subversion.
  • Communications Protocols and Networked Systems. RS232/422/485 would be an advantage
  • Development to ISO9001 standards
  • To be solution driven.

Location
This role is based at our Our Headquarters in Wareham, Dorset.

Remuneration
Attractive basic salary is offered with additional benefits including 25 days holiday, contributory pension and healthcare scheme.
The hours of work are 8am – 4pm Monday to Friday (37.5 hours per week with flexibility required in order to complete the requirements of the role).
